Professor Dr. Yameen Zubairi

Dr. Zubairi receives NIH Star Award: In a special ceremony the NIH/CSR Director Tony Scarpa on Nov. 4,  2009 delivered the NIH- STAR AWARD to Prof. Zubairi for his contribution in professionally disbursing the 5 billion dollar ARRA fund through NIH grants . Dr. Zubairi participated in the management of RC-3 and SBIR grants sections in this enormous undertaking assigned by President Obama to NIH in a special Executive Order..

Z- Journal, in the areas of  science and international relations reflects more than 50 years of professional and community life of Dr. Yameen Zubairi, in the US and abroad. He was a Graduate student ( B.Sc Honors, 2 Masters and a Ph.D. ), Professor, research worker and administrator in the Departments of Biology, Human Physiology, Medical Biochemistry and Toxicology in several institutions of higher learning. These include the University of California, Berkeley; University of Wisconsin, Madison; University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; University of Maryland, Baltimore; US National Cancer Institute; National Institute of Child Health ( NIH ); and Center For Scientific Grants Review . Prof Z has also served as Senior Grants Review Administrator in the  US Army Cancer Research Program in the position of the  Chief of the sections on Breast Cancer- Clinical & Experimental Therapeutics and Neurofibromatosis. He currently serves as the Scientific Review Administrator in the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Oncological Translational Clinical Branch. Dr. Zubairi has served in senior academic positions abroad. These include as visiting professor in Karachi's College of Physicians and Surgeons, and as faculty of University of Karachi, University of Faisalabad and S.M. College and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. He has served in advisory capacity for  various educational institutions including the University of Karachi,  Hamdard University and UN Development Project. He heads an educational consulting firm of Transknowledge International.

 Dr. Zubairi is also a writer of English , Urdu and Islamic literature having authored books and more than hundred articles including the first Urdu-Hindi novel of North America- Khush Raho Ahle Watan ( unveiled in the 10th Annual Convention of the US Assoc. Asian Studies , Univ. Maryland, 1981.) and The Purpose of Islam ( Byron-Davenport Pub.). His leadership roles in  the areas of humanities is established. He has served, as an Adviser and Chairman of a Standing Committee in the US Assoc. For Asian Studies, as editor and columnist of Eastern Times, D.C. and Unity times, Chicago, as President of Pak-American Institute of Science and Technology ( Dr. Abdus Salam, Nobel laureate Board Chairman ), President , Citizens For Peace in South Asia and as founding Trustee of American Institute of Pakistan Studies. Dr Z is also considered an authority on some aspects of Islamic studies having served as an adjunct professor of Islamic studies in the Towson state University MD, President of Islamic Society of University of Minnesota and President/Nazim of Islamic Students Organization of Karachi University. Dr. Zubairi is a community worker and activist. He has served as the President of Pakistan Association of Greater Washington, Chairman of Prime Minister Reception Committee, Adviser to  Pakistan Ambassador, Chair of Embassy's Educational Affairs Committee, Founder of Pakistan Festival Washington, Founder of Washington Policy Analysis Group        

  Dr. Zubairi has two children, boys; Rahel is a pediatric cardiologist engaged in both practice and research specializing further in congenital diseases  in Vanderbilt Medical School. Rahel has two children, Hanna and Noah and his wife Sadia is a practicing Dentist.. Son, Daniel  is the CEO of Sydantech, a specialist in homeland security , an active Maryland politician and having served as Governor's adviser on homeland security;. Yameen's wife Sabiha is the Chief of Microbiology Labs in the V.A. Medical Center, Washington D.C. She is also a known research scholar.
